What is Myofascial Release Therapy

www.youtube.com/watch?v=eW0lvOVKDxE&t=13s
  • Myofascial Release is an effective hands-on technique that reduces or eliminates myo-fascial restrictions, thereby eliminating pain and restoring motion.
  • Pain begins with restriction of the fascial system, which is the body’s connective tissue.
  • Fascia becomes restricted from any number of causes, such as injury, surgery, chronic holding, trauma, stress, repetitious activities, poor posture and improper workspace ergonomics.
  • Results from Myofascial Release treatments are immediate and cumulative. As the fascia begins to release, blood and lymph flow more freely to the tissues. This in turn reduces inflammation and paves the way for healing.
  • See this Youtube Video Clip from "Strolling under the Skin" by  Dr. Jean Claude Guimberteau, to see the fascial system live!
  • Those in chronic or severe acute pain are recommended to consider Intensive Treatments which will produce profound results in a shorter time period.

How does Myofascial Release differ from other therapies?

Picture
  • Myofascial Release treats the whole body with the understanding that most chronic pain is actually created by restrictions in another location in the body.
  • Traditional recovery treatments for accidents, surgeries, and chronic pain focus on promoting core strength. Based on this model, lack of core strength is the sole component leading to dysfunction causing pain. This focus will not address the issue of restricted fascia will continue to pull bones, organs, muscles and ligaments into pain causing contortions.
  • Myofascial Release works to open restriction, improve circulation and bring healing. Chronically restricted tissue are released, pain ends!

What are the benefits?

Picture
  • Myofascial Release treatment benefits nearly any condition of the body. There is literally no condition that cannot be improved with Myofascial Release Therapy.
  • Fascial restriction interferes with the flow of blood, lymph and nerve impulses. Reduction in one or all of these essential processes will affect the bodies skeletal, muscular and organ system.
  • Imagine the level of pain that restricted fascia can create! You may be experiencing that level of pain. Myofascial Release can offer you hope for recovery.

What is fascia and what causes it to restrict?

Picture
  • Fascia is the primary architectural element of the body. It is interwoven network throughout the body, connecting all the parts of the body on a cellular level, supporting organs and the musculoskeletal system. If you take away all of the muscle, bones and organs, the body's shape would be retained by the fascia.
  • Fascial restriction is the body's natural response to pain  and/or injury in the form of physical trauma.
  • Emotional traumas plays a role in fascial restriction through a process called "chronic holding" as response to stress, emotional upset and/or constant pain. Repetitive stress injuries cause fascia to restrict, which commonly occurs during work or play.
